Issued orders to sell cars by customs authorities.

34 vehicles were sold together in an auction by Chittagong Customs. The customs authority issued an order to sell these cars to the highest bidders on Thursday. Never before have so many cars been sold at auction at once.

Out of the 108 vehicles auctioned last month, the customs authorities have sold 34 vehicles at reasonable prices. On average, each car was sold for 32 lakh taka, inclusive of tax, and advance income tax. In all, the revenue of the government has been 10 crores and 90 lakhs.

Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Customs Ali Reza Haider told Prothom Alo that an order for the sale of 34 cars has been issued on the recommendation of the 14-member auction committee considering the reasonable price.

The vehicle can be redeemed by depositing 10 percent advance income tax and 7.5 percent value-added tax along with the approved rate.

British tourists of Bangladeshi origin brought these cars through Chittagong port a decade ago for tourism purposes. Generally, bringing a car into a tourist facility offers duty-free benefits, but there are conditions for taking it back. Many vehicles brought to the facility in the past were not returned.
